Dr. Colleen Heney is a residency-trained veterinarian with expertise in dentistry and oral surgery. She graduated as a veterinarian from the University of California – Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Heney obtained her bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, also from the University of California – Davis.
Dr. Heney developed an interested in veterinary dentistry and oral surgery as a specialty within her first year of veterinary school, when both her horse and pet rabbit had dental problems in quick succession of one another. She quickly developed a passion for dentistry and oral surgery for all species and committed early on to pursuing advanced residency training. Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Heney first completed a one-year equine internship in Penryn, CA at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center. She followed by completing a one-year rotating internship in small animal specialty practice in Los Angeles, CA at Animal Specialty Group.
Dr. Heney returned to the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine for four years of advanced residency training in Dentistry and Oral Surgery for both small animal and large animal species. Throughout her residency, Dr. Heney developed a passion for high quality care and a collaborative approach to complex cases. Her clinical interests include oral and maxillofacial trauma repair, maxillofacial surgery and reconstruction, and diagnosis and treatment of oral tumors. Additionally, she enjoys performing advanced periodontal surgery, endodontic procedures, and veterinary orthodontics.
Dr. Heney was born and raised in San Diego, but following her extensive academic career at UC Davis, she has long considered the greater Sacramento area to be home. She lives with her husband, Alex, dogs Soka and Belle, and rabbits Comet and Jett. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her horse, Prince. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, listening to audiobooks, and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Weaver grew up in Sacramento Valley with a love for animals. As a youngster, she participated in 4H raising llamas, rabbits, goats, and chickens; she also raised puppies for Guide Dog for the Blind, Inc. With a love for chemistry and pharmacy medicine, Dr Weaver attended Mills College in Oakland CA for her undergraduate degree then attended a Masters degree program for Polymer Chemistry and Engineering. After the tragedy of September 11, 2001, Dr Weaver realized she needed to fulfill her lifelong passion, which was to work with companion animals and their people.
In 2011, Dr. Weaver graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Immediately out of school, she completed a year-long rotating specialty internship at VCA-San Francisco Veterinary Specialists. After spending considerable time in general practice providing all services (emergency medicine, preventative medicine, and surgery), Dr Weaver started to expand on her passion for dentistry and oral surgery.
In addition to spending thousands of hours studying and performing dentistry procedures, Dr. Weaver genuinely enjoys the relationships she's created with her patients and their owners. She is dedicated to developing trust with the owners and provide as much information possible so the owners can make the most-informed medical decisions.
Outside of work, Dr Weaver shares her home with her husband, her son, and her 4-legged babies: Squirrel and Minnow, both teacup poodles, Riezl and Gertrude, both Standard Poodles, and, last but not least, her amazing Maine Coon cat, Siggi Meatloaf. Dr Weaver loves spending time with her family, camping, reading, listening to audiobooks and podcasts, embroidery, sewing, playing Legos with her son, and enjoying life to the fullest.
