Melissa A. Gates, D.V.M., Hospital Director
Dr. Gates is a 1980 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. She has been the owner of Cordova Veterinary Hospital since 1987. She has a special interest in dentistry, and has been a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society since 1990.
She has successfully completed two master's level courses in restorations, oral surgery, and orthopedics at the Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore; and lectures and labs in Advanced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Gates has attended the Veterinary Dental Forum annually for 20 years, and has participated in laboratory training in Endodontics (conventional and surgical), Maxillary and Mandibular Fracture Repair, Crown Preparation and Restoration, Intraoral Radiography, Oral Surgery and Guided Tissue Regeneration.
Dr. Gates has lectured on dentistry to local veterinary groups and provided training at local veterinary hospitals in dental radiography and oral surgery. She has provided referral dental services to veterinarians in the Sacramento and Northern California area for over 15 years, and enjoys working with veterinarians and their patients to provide the best outcome possible.
Dr. Gates is also active in local and state veterinary associations, having served as president and treasurer of the Sacramento Valley Veterinary Medical Association and the Sacramento Veterinary Medical Association Charitable Foundation. She completed the Don Low/CVMA Practitioner Fellowship in Small Animal Internal Medicine at U.C.Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
When not working with her patients, she spends time with her husband John, son Eric as well as their Standard Poodle (Jazz) and Springer Spaniel (Dug).
